We are officially in the month of the St Alban’s Film Festival! Yay! I can’t believe it has come round so quick, and that there is only one week to go now.
I’ve had a few students coming up to me at Uni this week and asking about what the film fest is all about and whether it is just for kids and families. So I’d like to set the record straight and say, no. It really is for all ages, with some elements aimed especially at young people (don’t worry, if over-excited kids and nagging parents aren’t your thing there is plenty of chances to get away from that).
Some of the screenings and workshops for students include ‘How to Film Extreme Sports’; a workshop being run by Ben Roper Films (http://www.benroperfilms.com/), ‘How to Make an Amazing Music Video’ and ‘Learn to Fight Like a Superhero’. But perhaps one of the best ways to enjoy mixing with all the people that the festival will bring into St Albans will be the DJ-MC night at the Pioneer Club on Saturday 7. Hosting the over 18s night will be Casual Breakin’ and Supermassive.
Casual Breakin’ began his turntablism in the heady rave days, starting on pirate radio stations, illegal raves and now is a regular face on the London breaks and Electro dance music scene, smashing up airwaves, clubs and carnivals alike. He is also, chief music ReMasher for ‘The Hungerpod’, a twice monthly podcast for Rankin’s über slick fashion and style bible. The Live DJ-MC event will be taking place from 7pm – midnight.
Here’s my pick of the weekend for students and 18-25s:
